Rare Pink Hippo Spotted!



Nature Fact: when many animals are born in the wild with a skin pigmentation issue of this type, they don't live long. This is mainly because their natural camouflage is gone. But hippos like this one can get away with it, because a.) hippos defend their herds, and b.) hippos are HUGE!

Animal Action Alert: Disappearing Gibbons


The Gibbon is in rapid decline and is expected to go extinct.

So say primate experts who have made a call to action to save the crested gibbons of southeast Asia, which are the most vulnerable group of all apes.

For example, just 20 Hainan gibbons survive on one island in China, making it the world's rarest ape species.
Experts highlighted the status of the apes at the XXII Congress of the International Primatological Society.

"The crested gibbons are the most threatened group of primates and all species require urgent attention to save them from extinction", says Dr Thomas Geissmann, a world-renowned gibbon expert based at the University of Zurich in Switzerland, and advisor on the apes to conservation organisation Fauna and Flora International (FFI)

Video: Ant Vortex



Apparently what happens is this: if because of environmental conditions or for various other reasons, the pheromone scent that ants use to navigate is lost, then the ants will just follow each other. And when the scent is completely lost by a group of ants, they'll simply walk around in a giant circle until they die of exhaustion.
